Your contact

I have interpreted in hospitals for years, among them the Barmherzige Brüder in Graz, and know medical terminology from daily clinical practice in both languages.

When an Arabic medical report translation is needed

People who need an Arabic medical report translation usually have a concrete reason: treatment continues in Austria and the hospital needs the history, an insurer is assessing a claim, the pension insurance is deciding on incapacity for work or rehabilitation, or an application for care allowance is being assessed.

In the opposite direction, patients need Austrian doctor's letters in Arabic when treatment continues in their home country. Whether certification is required depends on the recipient: authorities and insurers usually insist on it, while a specialist translation is often enough for treatment in hospital. Certified translations are produced by court sworn and certified translators.

What matters in medical translation

A medical report leaves no room for approximation. Diagnoses, ICD codes, laboratory values with units and reference ranges, medicines with active substance and dosage, surgical reports and imaging findings have to be transferred exactly. Abbreviations from English or French are expanded.

Handwritten doctor's letters, stamps with specialist titles, multi page patient files and Hijri dates on documents from the Gulf states are typical challenges. The patient's name is spelled as in the machine readable zone of the passport, so that report, passport and insurance paperwork match.

  • Diagnoses and findings rendered faithfully, without interpretation or simplification
  • Laboratory values, units and reference ranges left unchanged
  • Medicines with active substance names, brand names preserved
  • Illegible passages marked as such, never guessed

Confidentiality

Medical records are among the most sensitive data there is. For clinics, insurers and law firms we sign a non disclosure agreement on request.

We also interpret at your appointment

Often the translated report is only half the job, because a conversation with the doctor follows: informed consent before surgery, discussion of findings, ward rounds, rehabilitation planning or an assessment by the pension insurance. We interpret on site in Vienna and Graz and across Austria, and by video or phone when time is short. Read more on our hospital interpreting page, linked at the bottom of this page.

Turnaround and price

A doctor's letter or report of one to five pages is usually ready within one to three working days. If a treatment date or an insurer's deadline is close, ask for express service. Extensive patient files are planned together with you. The price depends on length, subject matter and legibility of the source, and you always receive an individual quote.

Frequently asked questions about medical translation

Certification, accuracy and data protection.

For pension insurance, care allowance, insurers, courts and the immigration authority, usually yes. For continued treatment in hospital a specialist translation is normally enough and is ready sooner. Ask the recipient, we offer both.

No, values and units stay exactly as in the original to avoid errors. If a laboratory uses units that differ from Austrian practice, conversion is a matter for the treating doctor.

Yes, this is a frequent request. The translation provides the written basis, and at the appointment we interpret on site or by video. An interpreter who already knows the report interprets the conversation more precisely.

Yes, as far as they are legible. Illegible passages are marked as such in the translation, never guessed. For important passages we recommend asking the issuing doctor for a typed version.

We work in line with GDPR, share documents only with the translator in charge and delete them after completion on request. A non disclosure agreement is available on request.

Send us the documents right away and tell us the date. For one to five pages the translation is usually ready within one to three working days, express service is available on request. The hospital can usually work with the PDF straight away.
